ITINERARY #2 Heavy on the Arts and Culture in the Rockland/Camden Area of Midcoast Maine
Day One
-
Walk the historic downtown Rockland Main Street and visit the unique shops on the way to the Farnsworth Art Museum and Wyeth Center. Take in the largest collection of Maine artists at this renowned art museum. Visit the many unique galleries on Main Street (over 20 at last count!).
-
Have lunch at Rockland Café, Rustica, Lily Bistro, Atlantic Baking Company, Bricks or enjoy a lobster club sandwich at the Brass Compass.
-
Take in the Maine Lighthouse Museum which features the largest collection of lighthouse lenses and artifacts in the country. Then enjoy a visit to the area's local lighthouses with a self-guided driving tour (ask your innkeeper for a map) to Owl’s Head light, Marshall Point lighthouse and south to Pemaquid Point lighthouse.
Enjoy the area's latest museum celebrating the rich maritime history with a stop at the Sail, Power and Steam Museum at Sharp's Point in Rockland. They are in the process of building a lime kiln that mirrors the kilns of old that lined the coast of this area.
Don't miss the Owls Head Transportation Museum with a vast collection of antique cars and planes and displays that detail the history of transportation. Car enthusiasts may need all day to visit but this museum will entertain everyone for several hours.
-
Enjoy one of our many wonderful restaurants for dinner like Primo Restaurant, Suzuki Sushi, Lily Bistro, Cafe Miranda, Rustica, Amalfi on the Water and perhaps a night cap or just small plates at the wine bar, In Good Company.
Day Two
-
After Breakfast, on to Gen. Knox Museum for a little history then to the Olson House (part of the Farnsworth Museum) where Andrew Wyeth painted “Christina’s World”.
-
Late lunch at the Thomaston Café with their homemade soups and breads, the Brass Compass, Rustica or Linda Bean's Perfect Lobster Roll.

-
Back to rest and dinner at one of our wonderful chef owned restaurants. There are over 20 in downtown Rockland alone and 5 of 31 top chef's in Maine are in this area according to Maine Magazine.
Day Three
-
Breakfast and off to explore Camden village, the auto Drive at Mt. Battie and on to the funky historic town of Belfast with its beautiful architecture, unique stores including the country’s oldest continuously running shoe store and the "Green Store" that has been promoting planetary health since 1993 as "a general store for the 21st century" with products that range from compost toilets to organic underwear. Stop off at Swan’s Island blankets where they make the beautiful blankets in their working studio.
-
Lunch at Chase’s Daily (organic and vegetarian specialties), Dudley's Diner with homemade pies or DelVino's Pasta and Grill!

Continue driving to Searsport, the self-proclaimed Antiques Capital of Maine and home to the largest collection of sea captain homes and the Penobscot Marine Museum.
-
Dinner. Again, decisions, decisions about which of our great restaurants to try.
