Rockland’s Renaissance has escalated this once fishing town to one of the "Top Ten Coolest Small Towns in America" as named by Budget Travel in 2009. Rockland has seen a large increase in tourism and its downtown has been transformed into one of unique shops, boutiques, fine dining and art galleries. Rockland is the commercial center of the midcoast with historic inns, a coffee roaster, a food co-op and the Farnsworth Art Museum. Once boarded up shops are now colorfully decorated and both the Farnsworth Art Museum and Wyeth Center offer a diverse Maine collection of artisans. Furthermore, the City of Rockland hosts many festivals, including the Maine Lobster Festival and the North Atlantic Blues Festival.
